Swimming & Snorkeling with Whales
It is a remarkable experience to observe orca whales from solid ground, and even more magical to see them up close from the deck of a boat. Imagine, then, slipping into the water and snorkeling alongside these majestic creatures, entering their world and encountering them in the subaquatic realm they call home. After an introduction to basic snorkeling techniques and equipment, your local captain will guide you along the traditional migration routes where whales are most likely to appear.
When a whale is sighted, you will gently enter the water with your guide and float at the surface, watching as these extraordinary animals move through the depths below. Your dry suit, snorkel, fins, and gloves will keep you warm and comfortable, allowing you to remain in this timeless underwater environment and experience a rare sense of connection with some of the ocean’s most noble inhabitants.
On request, we can arrange for a private photography team to document your experience, both underwater and from the boat.
Kindly note that the experience is 100 % non-refundable if cancelled on the same day, as extensive preparation is required. If the supplier cancels more than 24 hours in advance, you will receive a full refund.
Please also be aware that, depending on conditions, the tour may be converted to a whale watching excursion. This may occur if the weather and sea state allow for sightseeing but do not permit entering the water. This decision will be made at the crew’s discretion based on safety considerations.
We provide all necessary equipment, including dry suits, masks, snorkels, fins, gloves, and hoods. Please note that we have a limited selection of dry suits available in standard sizes (S to XXL). Ensuring a proper fit is essential, and we therefore strongly recommend trying on the suit in advance of the experience. All participants must be fully suited before boarding the boat.
While the dry suits offer protection, swimming in Arctic waters during winter remains a cold experience, and some moisture may occur. To stay warm, we recommend wearing thick wool base layers and socks underneath, and bringing a spare set of clothes to change into afterwards.
Underwater visibility may vary depending on weather conditions, including daylight, snow, and wind.
Disclaimer: Swimming with whales involves inherent risks related to cold-water conditions and interaction with wild marine animals. Participation is voluntary and undertaken at your own risk.
